Abstract. Introduction. In the context of scientific and technological progress, when the total amount of knowledge increases at a rapid pace, it does not seem possible to expand the syllabus by including new applied issues in the scope of the course.

Materials and Methods. The paper describes the principles designed to adapt the educational material of a comprehensive physics course for the students majoring in “Maintenance and repair of motor vehicles”.

Results of the research include the creation and adoption of a professionally-oriented and adapted textbook in physics.

Conclusion. The positive experience of the syllabus adaptation demonstrates the effectiveness of the principles used, as well as the relevance of the methodological problem for the system of secondary vocational education.

Keywords: Comprehensive physics course, “Mechanics” section, syllabus adaptation, secondary vocational education, specialty “Maintenance and repair of motor vehicle”.
