Abstract:

Introduction. In the modern context of Russian societal development, there is a critical need for education capable of serving as a tool for integrating representatives of diverse ethnocultural groups. Ethnic diasporas perform the role of an intermediary nexus between academic entities and ethnic groups, enabling the preservation of their ethnocultural identity while simultaneously facilitating integration into the host community. To achieve this goal, higher education institutions can establish targeted partnerships with ethnic diasporas, creating and fostering an adaptive multicultural educational environment. The university’s ability to implement a model of a socially oriented structure enables the solution of multiple complex tasks, contributing to the improvement of education quality, the development of the university’s scientific potential, and the social stability of both the region and Russian society as a whole.

Materials and Methods. The study employed a set of scientific methods of logical and historical analysis, including source analysis, empirical methods, and systematic as well as structural-functional analyses of the mechanisms of interaction between diasporas and educational institutions. To achieve the main objective of the study, the modeling method was used to develop a model of interaction between the university and ethnic diasporas.

Results. This study investigates the determinants shaping the ethnocultural heterogeneity of the Sakhalin Region and delineates the predominant patterns in the development of ethnic diasporas. The modern integrated interpretation of the term “diaspora” is determined, as well as its narrow meaning is defi ned. The analysis of the communication activities of the Sakhalin Region diasporas is conducted. The authors substantiated the need for interaction between Sakhalin State University and the ethnic diasporas and developed a theoretical model of interaction between the university and ethnic diasporas.

Conclusion. The communication networks of the region’s diasporas served as the basis for organizing targeted cooperation with Sakhalin State University, which is implemented on the basis of the theoretical model and solves a number of multidisciplinary tasks: expanding the sociocultural space of the university, optimizing the educational process, preserving the cultural heritage of the region and the formation of regional cross-culture, strengthening the social consolidat ion of society through the adaptation of migrants to the host community, etc.
