Abstract. Introduction. The paper dwells upon the aspects of the development of the educational process aimed at teaching mentally impaired students and improving its effectiveness by updating the content of preschool education. The paper aims to familiarize readers with the potential benefi ts of STEM education for the correction of psychophysical development disorders in mentally impaired children.

Materials and methods. The subject of the research was the process of education of mentally retarded students in a blended learning group. The main methods used in the study were an analysis of research and methodological literature, a review of the conclusions made by the Psychological Medical and Pedagogical Commission regarding the mentally impaired students, familiarization with the activities of the preschool educational institution, and experiment.

Results. The research identifi ed the potential benefi ts of STEM education for the correction of disorders in mentally retarded children.

Conclusion. The materials of the paper can be of interest to teachers at preschool educational institutions and can enable an increase in the effectiveness of correction work in blended learning groups. The fi ndings are indicative of the need to further the research with the view to identifying effective partial preschool educational programs for mentally retarded children.
