Abstract. The article affirms the need to take into account on Literature lessons the connections between the literary works of the two past centuries. The writers of the late XXth century give such an opportunity, putting and solving the problem of true values and true beauty which is traditional for Russian literature. While analyzing the story by V. Makanin The Caucasian Prisoner” (1994), the teacher will be able to establish this connection with the tradition in order to tell students about the unchanged faithfulness of Russian literature to humanism and moral values.
