Abstract. Introduction. The paper aims to present an extended analysis of the specific features of humanities knowledge in terms of the competence and communicative approaches to the development of a culture- oriented personality of a modern educator according to the principles of the theory of cultural self-determination.

Materials and methods. include the concepts and programs of learning and teaching support materials in Social Sciences and Humanities (National History, Philology and Foreign languages) for secondary schools; and modular continuing professional educational programs for teachers, which formulate the content of cultural polylogue/dialogue among/between the participants of the educational process. The effectiveness of the texts from the above sources is studied through practices, which involves the methods of content analysis, longitudinal experiment, questionnaires, interviews, linguistic testing; diagnostic and formative assessments.

Results of the study. The findings include the characteristics of value-developing culture-oriented practices in the system for advanced training of educators, as well as regional features of the information and educational space in the context of updated values of the national education system.

Conclusion. Based on an analysis of the current active methods and forms of advanced training and retraining of teachers, we have demonstrated the prospects for cultural self-determination of a teacher personality; set the objective to change the content and expand the boundaries of culture-oriented personality learning to comprehend and understand modern global processes at the regional level.
