Abstract. Introduction. Elimination of the contradictions between the high level of scientifi c knowledge about physical culture and its refl ection in the content of the “Physical Culture and Sports” discipline requires new approaches to the teaching methodology and the control of received knowledge. The novelty of the proposed teaching methodology lies in an original and concise form of presentation of the materials to be studied as well as a focus on the independent activities within various types of physical education, including adaptive physical education, throughout life. The paper aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the experimental methodology for teaching the “Physical Culture and Sports” discipline.

Materials and methods. Over the period from 2012 to 2019, we analyzed 530 self-examination cards of students from Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University after studying the discipline according to the traditional and experimental teaching methods.

Results. Learning according to the proposed methodology signifi cantly increased the number of students wishing to get a consultation from specialists in the fi eld of physical education for the competent preparation of a rehabilitation program with the help of physical exercises.

Conclusion. After 10 hours of work with a teacher according to the proposed methodology, students receive deep knowledge of the subject and have the opportunity to change their attitude to the scientifi c fi eld “Physical Culture and Sports” in general and to their health in particular. The study has indicated that the main ways to improve the teaching methodology of the subject “Physical Culture and Sports” are to study this discipline using the methods of indirect visualization and individualized planning of independent individual recreational physical activities, as well as to integrate students’ independent work and teacher’s research work.
