Abstract. The article shows that the psychological safety of students in the educational environment of Irkutsk State University is a complex phenomenon that includes a large number of components with distinct features at various emotional intelligence levels. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of the psychological safety of Irkutsk State University students with different levels of emotional intelligence.

Materials and methods. The following were used as psychodiagnostic tools: the questionnaire “Psychological Diagnostics of the Educational Environment” by I. A. Baeva and the questionnaire of emotional intelligence “EmIn” by D. V. Lyusin. The sample consisted of 214 Irkutsk State University students.

Results. Students with very high and high levels of emotional intelligence demonstrate a positive cognitive and emotional component of their attitude to the educational environment; they are characterized by a very high level of security when interacting with students and teachers, as well as very high rates of satisfaction with significant characteristics of the educational environment of the university. Respondents with a low level of emotional intelligence are characterized by neutral indicators of the cognitive component of their attitude to the educational environment, as well as neutral and negative indicators of the behavioral component and mixed measures of protection from peer violence. Students with very low emotional intelligence are characterized by positive indicators of the cognitive component of their attitude to the educational environment and neutral indicators of the emotional and behavioral components of the attitude. In addition, this group of students had indicators of low protection from student violence and an average level of protection when interacting with teachers. There are low satisfaction rates.

Discussion and conclusion. The study’s findings make it possible to expand our understanding of the specifics of the psychological safety of students in an educational environment with different levels of emotional intelligence. These findings can be used by specialists in the work of the psychological service of the university to draw up a program to increase the level of psychological safety in the educational environment of the university, including through the development of emotional intelligence.
