Abstract. Introduction. The article is devoted to the current problem of teaching literature methods, specifically the issue of students’ skill development in reading and interpreting contemporary authors’ works. The relevance of this study is due to the need to identify effective techniques for reading and interpreting the works of contemporary writers in high school. The purpose of the article is to identify the most effective methods of analyzing and interpreting works of modern Russian literature and to justify the necessity of including B. Ekimov’s works with high spiritual, moral and patriotic educational potential in the schoolchildren’s range of reading.

Material and Methods. The article presents the experience of conducting a lesson on B. Ekimov’s story “Speak, Mom, Speak” in the 11th grade of one of the schools in Kazan. In the lessons, dialog and reflexive technologies prevail, and we suggest combining traditional methods and techniques of studying epic works with interactive learning technologies.

Results. The experience of conducting a lesson on the works of B.P. Ekimov at school is described. The possibility of including his prose in the students’ range of reading is theoretically substantiated, because the works of B.P. Ekimov have a high artistic potential, and also allow to conduct at the lessons of literature, native (Russian) literature and extracurricular reading conversations about the relationship between parents and children, about love for their homeland, for the ancestral home, which contributes to the formation of moral qualities in high school students.

Conclusion. The author concludes that it is necessary for schoolchildren to study the work by B. P. Ekimov at school, which allows them to actualize their personal life experience of relationships with parents. And the use of reflexive, interpretive technologies of analyzing literary texts contributes to the formation of students’ cognitive interest, reading skills and stable moral beliefs.
