Development of Media Competence in Children with Disabilities

Abstract. Introduction. The article examines the prerequisites and factors for the development of media competence in children with disabilities through the organization of additional media education activities. The author also describes the presented model of additional media educational activity (teacher, child, parent), which allows, from the point of view of an activity-based approach, to develop media competence among three subjects immersed in media activities. The main recommendations on the organization of additional media education activities in working with children with special educational needs are given.
Materials and Methods. In writing the article, materials and research from Russian educators and psychologists in the field of media education were used, as well as methods of analysis, modeling and design, and work on the formation of media competence.
Results. The practice-oriented component of the work consists of the author comparing the results obtained from practical experience of working with children studying in adaptive additional general developmental programs using additional media educational activities. In addition, conditions for the development of media competence of children with disabilities have been determined.
