The methodological basis of the research is the ideas of philosophy (post-non-classical understanding of the world and man in the world, characterized by the growth of reflection of value contexts; identification of the hierarchy of value relations, the status of values), philosophy of education (identification of strategically significant vectors of socio-cultural modernization of education), classical methodology of literature (the relationship of socio-political changes and methods, traditions and innovations in it) modern research on the axiological status of literary and linguistic education. A multidimensional analysis of the orientation and dynamics of scientific research on the methodology of teaching literature, educational programs in literature, discussions on the problems of literary education, socio-cultural educational initiatives, scientific predictive sources, and the current state of literary education is given.

A summary of current trends in the methodology is given: semantic reading and understanding of a literary text, the development of texts of a new nature, visual practices in literary education, digital and information resources of literary education, distance learning in literature, transmedia technologies in literary education, the development of emotional intelligence of a student reader, the upbringing of a student reader, literary education in a multicultural environment, the relevance of the “network” methodology, the “new” methodology. A professional request for the variability of methodology and methodical communication has been identified. The crisis manifestations are outlined: the weakening of the position of methodological science (the degree of intensity and focus of research), the nature of the Federal Work program of basic general education, the state of teaching methods in pedagogical universities. The weakening of the horizontal links of the institutions guiding literary education is emphasized.

Discussion and Conclusion. Identification of “problem areas” of the methodology and their professional assessment are a condition for overcoming crisis manifestations and developing the system of Russian literary education.
