Abstract. The paper deals with the results of the comparative study of the polymodal perception by the 7th year of life children with mental retardation, severe speech disorders and normal mental ontogenesis. The authors give the percent difference in leading modality  perception, the presence of the closed and covered channels and in frequency of active and inactive channels of perception. It was revealed that the majority of the 7th year of life children with disabilities have the disharmonic types of polymodal perception, and peers with normal mental ontogenesis more often have the harmonious type. The obtained data should be taken into account when doing correctional and developmental work.
