Abstract. Introduction. In the 21st century, the modern information society is characterized by changes in the value of higher education among today’s youth.
Materials and methods. This article is based on the analysis of empirical data from a sociological survey conducted in the spring of 2022. The purpose of the study is to identify the importance of higher education values for today’s youth.
Results. Young people generally recognize the high role of education in the process of personal development while evaluating higher education largely from a rational standpoint as a tool for achieving career goals and obtaining a competitive specialty in demand. However, in their opinion, higher education is not the determining factor for obtaining a high income or the main prerequisite for life success.
Conclusion. In modern society, higher education among young people begins to act primarily as an instrumental rather than terminal value, mainly as an important tool for employment and career growth. Young people do not perceive higher education as an institutionalized cultural capital necessary for success in life, as was the case in industrial and early post-industrial societies.
