Abstract. Introduction. The issue of patriotism is of great importance for the development of an individual as a citizen from an early age. The work aims to determine the level of citizenship and patriotism in teenagers and young men.
The methods employed in the research include standardized interview and questionnaire “Citizenship and patriotism” (A. S. Vishnevskaya, L. I. Sarantseva). The fi ndings indicate a high level of citizenship and patriotism in both age samples. Teenagers give the overriding priority to an interest in the historical past of the country and knowledge of the basic legal acts, while the values associated with military service appear to be their low priority. Apart from an interest in culture and history, for university students, their active actions aimed at expressing their civic position come to the fore.
Conclusion. The research has identifi ed the problems in the patriotic education of the students, and in this context a historical and patriotic program was formulated and tested with the view to developing youth tourism through drawing the attention of young people to history, memorable places, culture and traditions, and their studying by participating in quest games.
