Abstract.

Introduction. The issue of prevention of road traffic injuries in children is reviewed in documents of the federal and regional level such as the “Strategy for Road Safety in the Russian Federation for 2018-2024”, and the “Roadmap for the Development of the System for Prevention of Road Traffic Injuries in Children in Irkutsk Region for 2025-2027”. The implementation of Federal programs involving the prevention of road traffic injuries in children has a positive effect on road safety, however, as statistics show, the issue of child injuries is still very acute and requires additional research and projects. In this regard, a fact-finding study was conducted to identify the current state of key indicators of the system for preventing road traffic injuries in children in educational institutions of the Irkutsk region. This article contains a description of the study, the results obtained and recommendations for further work on the implementation of extracurricular activities and additional education programs in the field of road safety, taking into account the status of a road user and new forms of individual mobility.

Materials and Methods. The following objectives were addressed in the course of the study: analysis of scientific publications, experience of educational organizations and regulatory documentation on the problem of prevention of road traffic injuries in children; study of the current state of key indicators of the system of prevention of child road traffic injuries in educational organizations of the Irkutsk region, including the implementation of extracurricular activities and additional education programs in schools; analysis of the survey results and preparation of recommendations for optimization of the system of prevention of road traffic injuries in children in the Irkutsk region. The study was implemented in two directions: a survey to assess the availability and number of such specialized programs in the system of extracurricular activities and additional education for children; the presence of the topic of vehicle safety in these programs, as well as the status of specialists implementing these programs and an examination of the methods of implementing these programs also according to the above indicators: problematic, reflexive, use of games and information and communications technologies, as well as social partnership and an open environment.

Results. Based on the results of the work, the following results were obtained: special programs ensuring the prevention of road traffic injuries in children are implemented in all the studied schools; the total number of schoolchildren attending classes on road safety training programs is approximately 45 % of the total number of schoolchildren studying in the 2024/25 academic year; classes on road safety training programs are conducted by teachers and educators jointly with traffic police officers; all programs include problem-oriented and reflective teaching techniques, as well as various forms of social partnership and work with parents, but in most cases these areas of work are one-time, non-systemic in nature.

Discussion and conclusion. In general, the system of prevention of road traffic injuries in children meets modern requirements and development trends in terms of the content and methods of the programs implemented, the status of the involved teaching staff and effectiveness, however, targeted work is needed to replenish the deficit of programs at the second and third stages of education, to develop end-to-end programs that will correspond to the age-related psychological characteristics of children at each level and reflect the social aspects of each age.
