Abstract. Introduction. The article considers the current problem of unifying the terminological apparatus of speech therapy using the example of coherent monologic speech units from the standpoint of an interdisciplinary approach (linguistic, linguostylistic, psycholinguistic, logopedic, and methodological). The purpose of this study is to conduct a theoretical analysis of the nominations of coherent monologic speech units and their unification, which is expected to contribute to the formation of professional competence in speech therapy students during the study of the course “Speech Therapy Technologies” and the possible subsequent application of a unified terminological apparatus in independent work when studying the state of coherent monologic speech of preschoolers with severe speech impairments.
Materials and Methods. By using theoretical methods including analysis, synthesis, comparison and generalization, induction and deduction, we analyzed the features of the terminological paradigm of coherent monologic speech units in speech therapy sources in terms of identifying “problem areas” and their possible elimination.
Research results. As a result of the analysis of terms denoting coherent monologic speech units, the absence of unified nominations for children’s speech production, the presence of terminological synonymy, unjustified expansion of the meanings of terms, their polysemy, which contradicts the very nature of the term as a linguistic sign, was revealed, their “opacity” in the contextual use of diagnostic formulations tasks. Proposals have been made for the unification, differentiation and clarification of terms, and the possibility of including the units designated by them into the author’s criteria-based diagnostic model for assessing coherent monologic speech is shown.
Discussion and Conclusion. The proposed terminological paradigm of coherent monologic speech units can be used both as a metalinguistic teaching one in the educational process in a university setting, and as a practical one – in the direct activities of speech therapists.
