Abstract. The article considers some problems of teaching Literature to foreign students. The urgency of discussing this problem is due to several factors. Traditionally, in the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language Literature was not allocated to an independent discipline, literary texts were used as a means of teaching the Russian language, and also for the purpose of forming and developing this type of speech activity, like reading.

The introduction of professionally oriented training of foreign students in Russia led to the development and implementation of new curricula for the preparation of future bachelors and masters, which led to a change in the status of such training courses as "Russian Literature".

In this regard, the most urgent problems related to its study, namely, the difficulties of reading and understanding of artistic texts for foreign students, are also considered, and also the methodological difficulties of organizing the learning process for the instructor leading this course are revealed.

Keywords: methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language, Russian Literature, artistic text, stages and forms of work with the text, commenting on the artistic text, depth of perception and understanding of artistic texts, methodological bases of teaching.
